My favorite actor of the week is Jason Bateman

So, I finally got my first disc of Arrested Development Season 1 from Netflix. This is a really funny show. Why did no one tell me about this sooner?? Geez. I love it. The next disc can’t get here soon enough. Season 2 now added to the queue.

I think I have decided that this will be my Summer of TV Shows on DVD. I want to catch up on some shows I’ve read good things about but either ignored or never bothered to watch. That should tide me over til the fall.

So far I have:

The Office (BBC original), Series 2 (already been through Series 1)
Freaks & Geeks
Arrested Development (duh)

Any other suggestions?

Mamma Mia!

Sunday, June 4th, 2006

We went up the the Orpheum in Memphis yesterday and saw Mamma Mia! It was SO MUCH FUN! Errol even liked it. We both agree it’s the most fun we have had at a musical ever. All the music is ABBA songs, but it was actually a good story, even. Well, good story as far as a musical goes. It was cute. Everyone should see this show. I think it would be a good gateway musical for the un-initiated, too.

Even though I already have ABBA’s greatest hits (Yes, I do. Who doesnt honestly love at least one ABBA song?) which covers the songs in the show, I’m thinking of going ahead and getting the Broadway cast Mamma Mia! soundtrack, too. I wish I could get a recording of the traveling cast we saw. They kicked some vocal ass.

Afterward, we had dinner at the Rendezvous. It’s this great barbecue place in an alley. SO good. I should have taken a picture of my ribs. They were a masterpiece. It’s just that when I have good ribs in front of me, I go on auto-pilot, pull my hair back, my sleeves up and just go. My mom would always bring me to this place when I was little, and I got as many college friends to go there with me as a could. I honestly cannot count how many times I’ve been there. I have to say it’s my favorite place for ribs in Memphis, Corky’s be damned. I have so many good associations and fond memories there. They only serve the traditional Memphis dry rub ribs, so if you like ‘em smothered in sauce, use the bottle on the table to add some.

National Doughnut Day

Friday, June 2nd, 2006

Go to Krispy Kreme today and get a free doughnut for me. Then, go again and get a free doughnut for yourself. I would give my right arm to have a Krispy Kreme here. Arrr.
