I had doctor appointment number two today, and if they keep getting better I just don’t think I’ll be able to stand it. The doctor warned me that it’s perfectly normal to not hear the baby’s heartbeat on the first try this early on because of the baby’s small size and low position, but assured me I wouldn’t leave without knowing the baby was OK. So I got up on the table and he put the little monitor in position and started looking for the heartbeat. He said it would be fast, and that we would probably hear my heartbeat as well. Then we heard something!
I said, “Is that it?!? Wow.”
“No, that’s your pulse.”
“Oh, my gosh! It’s faster than that?”
“Yep”
THEN! There it was! That’s it! That’s my baby! Then, I realized I was holding my breath.
That has to be the most amazing sound ever, and the doctor said we get to do that every time I go in for a checkup. That’s definitely something I won’t miss for the world.
